How to Create a New Product?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Accurate product setup is the foundation of effective inventory management. Creating clear and detailed product records ensures reliable tracking, smooth order processing, and better reporting across your business.

In C2W Inventory, adding a new product is simple and flexible. You can create Inventory Items, Non-Inventory Items, or Service Items all from one screen. Only the SKU and Item Type fields are mandatory; all other fields are optional and can be added later.

Important:
Each SKU must be unique in the system. Once a SKU is created, it cannot be edited. If a SKU was entered incorrectly, deactivate that product and create a new one by copying the record with the correct SKU. number. Learn more about Auto SKU Generation.

Creating a Product

Basic Section

01
From the Main Menu, click Inventory Module, then select New Item.
02
You can either enter your own SKU and Product Name, or let the system auto-generate the item number. Learn more about Auto SKU Generation.
03
To add a Category or Brand, click the hyperlink under each field and enter the name directly.
04
By default, items are created as Inventory Items. You can switch to Non-Inventory Item or Service Item from the Type dropdown. Non-inventory items are ideal for things like packaging materials or services that are not physically stocked.
05
Enter a Title or Description to make products easier to identify in the system. These fields can also be printed on barcode labels.
06
To upload product images, click the plus icon or drag and drop a file into the upload area. Supported formats: PDF, PNG, JPG. To remove an image, click the delete icon.
Cost and Price (Optional)
C2W Inventory automatically calculates the Average Cost based on historical purchase data.

This helps ensure accurate profit margins and cost tracking.

Barcodes
Record product identifiers such as Barcode, UPC/EAN, ISBN, or XCode.

Once saved, you can scan either your own barcode or the one generated by C2W Inventory. The system recognizes both SKU and Barcode interchangeably—making data entry faster and reducing errors.

Measurements (Optional)

Record measurements such as weight, volume, or size for shipping and storage optimization.

Units of Measurement & Conversions (Optional)

If your products are purchased, stocked, or sold in different units (e.g., box, case, or piece), define your Units of Measurement (UOM) and set up conversion rates.

Learn more in Units of Measurement and Conversions.

Once all required details are entered, click Save to create the product record.

Tip:
If you already have product data in a spreadsheet or another system, use the Import Screen to bulk import items instead of creating them one by one
